What’s the difference between I work/I am working
Main Post: What’s the difference between I work/I am working
Top Comment: "I work" in general. For example, "I teach English five days a week." "I am working" means it is happening at the moment. It can be used in a general sense, but it usually means now. For example, "You are learning!" I hope... :)
Is it correct to say “I’m working currently/now” to mean “I have a job”?

Top Comment: “I’m working currently” or “I’m working now” is better. “Currently now” is redundant. Depending on the context, it could mean that you have a job, or that you are at work.

Difference between "it works like" vs "it's working like"
Main Post: Difference between "it works like" vs "it's working like"
Top Comment: "It works like" means: "This is how it worked before, works now, and will work in the future." "It's working like" is a little less confident. It doesn't say anything about how it worked before or how it will work later; it just says, "This is how it works right now."

How do people like working?
Main Post:
I just don't get it. Except for amazing jobs like playing guitar in a band or being a social media influencer, and really rewarding careers like nursing and teaching, most jobs aren't really exciting! What's to be excited about manufacturing or finance jobs? I mean it's great to have a good job that pays the bills, but even if I was to be the CEO of Google, I would much rather have free time than working, so I fail to see how some relatively wealthy people work like 70-hour work weeks! It almost seems like they enjoy work more than life which is weird.
Top Comment: It's hard to find a job that you really like.
Genuinely have no idea how people cope with working full time
Main Post:
I woke up at 7am this morning after quitting my public accounting job a few weeks ago and I have no clue what so ever how people can tolerate working for 8+ hours a day. Today I woke up, took my dog for a walk, helped my parents with some labor they needed doing, rode a bike with a friend, went swimming, watched an hour of TV, took a trip to the store to pick up some random supplies, chatted for a while with a friend from university I ran into at that store, played a videogame for an hour. All before 3pm. So many things I've done today that made me feel happy and fulfilled and if I was still working at my fucking office job I would literally STILL be at work for another two hours and would have experienced none of the things I did today. I have absolutely no idea how to come to terms with this kind of lifestyle that seems like an absolute necessary evil just to be afforded the luxury to spend the like 6 hours I get after work on any given work day where I have to cook and then be too tired to do anything and then go to bed at a reasonable hour so I won't be tired for 8+ hours of work the next day. Then on the weekend I get to do all the chores I don't have time for. What is the fucking point. The average lifespan of a human being is simply too long to live this kind of life for over 40 years of it.
Top Comment: Yup, the price you pay for money. You trade your time and happiness for money to survive. I started working part time and I love it!
What was your experience of starting a full time job for the first time?
Main Post:
I feel apprehensive of "living to work" and not having enough time/energy after work. I've worked fulltime before, but only for the summers.
What was your experience like?
Top Comment: Find your tools that help make it less stressful. Pack a bag in the evening for the next day including after work snacks and a gym bag for example. I plan all my self care needs in the evenings after work, then make weekend plans wth other people. Staying organized helps 8-5 life feel less chaotic for me. Get to bed early and get 8 hours of sleep. That helps too.
Does anyone out there actually *enjoy* working/having a career?

I went to college and got a job because I had to. Is what it is. I WFH full time, company is chill, pay is meh but benefits are great.
We’ve been doing some training lately. There’s a lot of talk about “what motivates you”, trying to be all inspirational about work and leadership and such.
It’s honestly... nauseating. It’s a good job, good people. But I’m here to make money. Period. That’s my only motivation.
Nothing, I mean nothing, about work satisfies me on a personal level. I don’t feel inspired to challenge myself in my career to achieve big things. I just want to make enough money to live a relatively simple and comfortable life. That’s it.
I fake it in the training and just make stuff up when they ask. For example, I’ll say something like “I’m motivated by the appreciation I receive from customers when I help them with ____!”. Really, I don’t care at all. I help customers with a smile on my face because that’s a requirement of the job.
Other coworkers have similar responses and I always wonder if we’re all faking it or if there are people out there who actually like working.
What do you guys think?
Top Comment: I like the challenge, but no, work isn't my main or even a top of the list motivator. I work to fund my plant habit and my "plant" habit, and to have stress-free off time to do my hobbies. My job is just kinda ok, it's not bad, it's not my life, it just is. Makes for some funny party stories and that's about it.
